President Donald Trump’s visit to Long Island’s East End for a pair of big money fundraisers sparked both support and outrage.
The president landed at Gabreski Airport in Westhampton Beach this morning. More than 100 protesters lined Montauk Highway in Water Mill. His motorcade was also met by more protesters and some supporters. Security was tight all along the president's route.
Both fundraising events were held at private estates, with tickets costing as much as $250,000. The first of the two fundraisers was held at the Bridgehampton home of developer Joe Farrell; the second was held at the Southampton estate of billionaire Stephen Ross. Ross owns the Miami Dolphins football team and is the chairman of a company that owns several fitness brands, including SoulCycle and Equinox gyms.
A nationwide movement to boycott those two businesses followed the announcement that Ross was hosting the fundraiser. Both fitness brands distanced themselves from Ross and the fundraiser, claiming they have nothing to do with the event and did not support it.
During the fundraisers, President Trump attended a luncheon and held a roundtable discussion. Trump said he was expecting to raise between $11 million and $12 million Friday.
