A Bronx group is spearheading a new project that could make Pelham Bay Park more accessible.
Friends of Pelham Bay Park wants everyone to be able to explore the borough's parks and ponds, including those who use wheelchairs or walkers, and children in strollers. Under the proposal, a pond walk would connect the southern part of the park to the rest of the playground.
Officials say a gravel path, complete with viewing deck, would cost close to $15,000. The Parks Department and Friends of Pelham Bay Park will be joining forces Thursday for a fundraiser to try and jump start the plan.
