A proposed 22-story condo in Williamsburg may soon be reduced to five stories.
City officials issued developer Mendel Brach a temporary stop work order after residents pointed out Brach may have violated his work permit. Brach received the permit to build the new building on North 8th Street while altering the adjacent building on North 7th Street. However, residents say Brach violated his permit by demolishing the North 7th building.
The city says if the demolition exceeded 50 percent of the building on North 7th Street, Brach may loose his work permit. If Brach loses his permit, he would have to reapply under the new zoning laws, which would limit the height of the building to five stories.
