Some Brooklyn residents want to give their neighborhood a green makeover by planting a community garden.
Community organizers are trying to get permission to create a garden next to the 9th Avenue station in Sunset Park. The required prep work would be quite a task, but these residents are up for the challenge.
?It?s very exciting,? says Zachary Jassie. ?I have two young children in the neighborhood. It would be a wonderful thing to do with them.?
Right now, the lot is full of trash and weeds, but the organizers can see the area with picnic tables and growing vegetables. They plan to gather enough signatures to take to local gardening groups. The next step would involve city officials.
