Leandra Feliz and Lisandro Guzman were on the stand Tuesday – hoping that another day of torment will bring them another step closer to justice for their son, Lesandro “Junior” Guzman-Feliz.
Prosecutors used the testimony of Detective Francis Orlando to establish who they believe is each of the five defendants facing murder charges. They showed the jury their mugshots next to freeze frames of each accused attacker taken from surveillance video captured the night of Junior's stabbing last June in Belmont.
Counsel for the defendants objected, citing improper identification because the detective was only present to pull screen grabs of the suspects from the video. They say he was not present when the video was recorded at the scene.
There are nine other defendants charged with second-degree murder in connection to the case who are awaiting trial. Prosecutors on Tuesday started to introduce some of their alleged roles to the jury. Those defendants are being tried separately, but prosecutors are trying to establish the elements of conspiracy.
Detective Orlando testified that a picture of a wanted black Acura was found on a Facebook account appearing to belong to Gabriel Ramirez Concepcion, who is facing second-degree murder charges.
The prosecutor pointed out that all 14 defendants are facing conspiracy charges.
Testimony continues Thursday.
