Community members rallied outside Fort Greene Park Wednesday after the recent discovery of a noose that was found hanging from a tree.
Organizers say a noose is a racially loaded symbol -- a sign of hatred and racism that has no place at the park. They held up signs and chanted as part of the rally.
Parks Department officials say the noose was found last week hanging from a tree near the tennis courts. It was taken down, and the NYPD was informed.
Police officials would not comment other than to say the incident has been referred to the Hate Crimes Unit.
Organizers say they are hoping for a thorough investigation.
A few weeks earlier, anti-Semitic graffiti was found on a nearby tree trunk. Police officials would not say if the two incidents are related.
