Teachers and parents at P.S. 160 in Borough Park are looking to build an annex next to the school in an effort to ease overcrowded classrooms.
Principal Margaret Russo says there is not enough space for the 800 students currently attending the school, which was originally constructed to hold only 500. One solution that Russo, teachers and parents are proposing is to transform a nearby lot that has been vacant for the past decade into an annex where additional classrooms would be built.
Students also say they do not have a gymnasium at school, which could eventually have a detrimental effect on their health.
?It?s very important nowadays, because you see a lot of obese children,? says student Mahlaqua Butt.
A reprehensive of Community Board 12 says a meeting will be held Dec. 16 to vote on whether or not to build the annex.
