A 25-year-old Queens man faces hate crime and assault charges in connection with a vicious attack on a gay couple over the weekend in Williamsburg.
The attack happened early Sunday morning in front of 540 Metropolitan Ave. Police say Brandon McNamara went up to the 29- and 34-year-old men, made an anti-gay statement, and then punched the 34-year-old in the face, knocking him unconscious.
Police say McNamara then threw the 29-year-old against a tree, causing him to also lose consciousness.
The 34-year-old was taken to Bellevue Hospital with a fractured shoulder. The other man was treated for a broken finger at NYC Health + Hospitals/Woodhull.
Police say McNamara turned himself in Wednesday morning. He faces charges of assault as a hate crime, assault and harassment as a hate crime.
