Dozens of rabbis joined with local leaders to help prevent price gouging on kosher for Passover food items.
According to Assemblyman Dov Hikind, it is an annual issue that goods marked ?Kosher for Passover? are priced higher than usual. Some retailers argue that kosher for Passover ingredients are more costly than normal ingredients, but in light of the recent economic crisis, Hikind and more than 30 Orthodox rabbis have created a proclamation against raising prices.
?You cannot, you may not take advantage of the consumer,? Hikind says.
Local residents say they are shopping earlier this year for Passover, which begins at sundown on April 8, in order to get the best prices.
According to Hikind?s office, the proclamation has worked to secure commitments with brands like Golden Flow, Materna baby food, among others.
