The city's health department says the number of people getting screened for colon cancer is on the rise, but that doesn't include one ethnic community in the borough.

Numbers show that Russian-speaking communities have a much lower colonoscopy rate compared to the average Brooklyn resident.

The Department of Health will be airing radio ads in Russian and working with community groups to get the word out. It looks to educate that colonoscopies could catch things early before they turn into cancer.

Doctors say a healthy lifestyle and not smoking greatly decreases your chance for colon cancer.
