(AP) - The twin half-brothers of an unarmed drug suspect who was killed by police are now headed to prison in a separate gun-gang case. A judge suggested both cases reflect the problem of illegal guns and violence.
Hodean and Kadean Graham were sentenced Wednesday to 1 1/3 to four years in prison. They'd been convicted of conspiracy but acquitted of more serious weapons charges.
Their lawyers said the 19-year-old twins were wrongly tied to acquaintances' crimes.
Manhattan state Supreme Court Justice Edward McLaughlin said the twins' entanglement with a gun-dealing gang was "an unavoidable and integral part of the context" in which their half-brother Ramarley was shot.
An officer said he thought the 18-year-old Ramarley Graham was reaching for a gun.
The officer has pleaded not guilty to manslaughter.
