Tenants in Bedford-Stuyvesant are dealing with a rat infestation at their apartments.

The residents of 969 Gates Ave. say that management has been trying to solve the problem by giving them large traps, putting down poison, closing off the incinerator and using a garbage can instead. There is also a foul smell with which the tenants must contend.

The building's assistant superintendent says the rats have scattered from the basement since poison was put down, and the awful stench that residents have mentioned comes from the dying rodents.

He also says an exterminator comes to the building every two weeks.
