An idea discussed during a Ravitch Commission public hearing Monday calls for the placement of toll booths at the Manhattan and Williamsburg bridges.

The commission, formed by Gov. David Paterson, is trying to find ways to help ease the MTA?s financial problems. It was created after the collapse of Mayor Michael Bloomberg?s congestion pricing plan. Bloomberg?s plan included charging drivers to enter busy parts of Manhattan at peak times. He says the plan would have brought in millions in revenue.

If implemented, money from the toll booths at the bridges would be given to the MTA. Some other ideas discussed at the meeting included a possible payroll tax.

The commission will turn in a report to the governor and legislative leaders in December.
