Tenants of a Bed-Stuy building say the recent collapse of two Brooklyn buildings has them worried their home could be next.
According to tenants of 181 Chauncey St., the problems at their building started when construction began at a neighboring site. The say the nearby construction shifted their building's foundation, causing cracks along the walls.
The Department of Buildings has a violation on record about the cracks, and a stop-work order has been in effect at the neighboring construction site since March. The owner of 181 Chauncey St. says work has been done in the building's basement to shore up the structure.
On Sunday, 493 Myrtle Ave. in Fort Greene collapsed, leaving four people with minor injuries and leading to the evacuation of six adjacent buildings. While in Bed-Stuy, 103 Patchen Ave. is now scheduled to be demolished after debris was seen falling from the building.
