Thousands of recovering addicts gathered Saturday to celebrate National Recovery Month.
Former addicts from all over the country went to Cadman Plaza for some entertainment before crossing the Brooklyn Bridge. They say it symbolizes their own journey to sobriety.
"It's unbelievable. I mean, I never thought I'd do something like this," says Jeannette Anderson, who has been drug free for 15 days.
Organizers of the rally say there are more than 22 million Americans struggling with alcohol or drug addiction. They say less than 10 percent of them are getting the necessary treatment.
The recovery rally was organized in partnership with the National Council on Alcoholism and Drug Dependence.
