Brooklyn residents prepared themselves Saturday for possible Metropolitan Transportation Authority fare increases.
Though an official fare hike has yet to be approved, talk of increasing costs has many local residents planning ahead and saving money. In November, MTA officials said they may raise single ride fares from $2 to $3. The fare hike would also impact weekly and monthly passes.
Straphangers say the increasing cost would prevent many of them from purchasing breakfast, coffee and newspapers before their daily commutes. Others say they might consider walking to work or school in order to save money on transportation costs.
