Events around the city are being canceled Saturday due to this weekend's heat wave.

The Coney Island Music Festival is just one event that won't be happening today.

City officials are hopeful that people will stay out of the heat if possible.

Con Edison has announced tips to save energy to prevent systems from overloading as many are cranking their air conditioners.

They say to turn off appliances when you're not home, make sure to clean air conditioner filters; and to try to keep shade, blinds and curtains closed to keep heat from coming in through the windows.

The city also has cooling centers available and hours are being extended at pools and beaches so residents can cool off later in the day.

Pools are remaining open until 8 p.m. and beaches until 7 p.m. There are also more than 600 spray showers at parks around the city.
