Restaurants prepare for West Indian American Day parade
Restaurants along the Eastern Parkway in Crown Heights are preparing for the West Indian American Day parade with less than a week to go.
At Trinidad Golden Palace on Nostrand Avenue, the clock is ticking with millions of people expected to be at the parade on Sept. 3.
"You have to get inventory, certain products are not available and we hire extra help Saturday," the owner says.
Curry goat and spinach rice are just some of what parade goers can sample at Golden Palace.
Across the street at Silver's Crust, Marcus Hall says the tradition of the parade and celebrating West Indian and Caribbean pride is something they look forward to each year.
"We just hire people from other locations to come in and help us to handle the work load and we are good to get extra food, extra stocks, extra things from whole sale. We have to prepare for it," he says.
Bryan Cumberbatch owns Gloria’s a Caribbean restaurant just down the street.
"Well it's been a tradition for the last 43 years," he says. " We'll be open the whole weekend of the parade from Friday to Monday so everyone can have that feeling that flavor that Caribbean vibe especially when they come here we cook massive doses of food," he says.
