A Rikers Island guard has been charged in connection with an inmate beating back in 2008.

Several corrections officers lined the halls at the Bronx Hall of Justice in a show of support for officer Edwin Diaz. He's accused of assault and falsifying police records after involving inmate Jesus Alejandro.

According to authorities, Alejandro was attacking a female corrections officer when Diaz came to her defense. They say he then lied in a report about exactly what had happened.

Diaz pleaded not guilty and is due back in court April 27.
