An East New York family is mourning its soldier son who was killed by a roadside bomb in Iraq.Military officials say Army Sgt. Kimel Watt, 21, died June 3 when a bomb exploded near his vehicle in Baghdad. Relatives say Watt's tour of duty had been extended six months.

Friends dropped off flowers at the family's home. Borough President Marty Markowitz also offered his condolences in person to Watt's parents, Naomi and Clifton Watt.

Relatives say the young man died doing what he loved: serving his country and helping others. "Every time I go to the hospital, he would come and take care of me," Clifton Watt said.

Watt planned to attend the University of Buffalo and possibly study nursing at the end of his tour. He passed on a college scholarship to join the Army.

A viewing and funeral will be held June 19 at New Jerusalem Church in Queens. The funeral will begin immediately after the viewing from 3 to 7 p.m.
