Surveillance video shows a man armed with a gun taking a hostage inside a Brooklyn store and firing a shot at a clerk before getting away with cash.
No one was seriously injured in the incident at Giselle's Grocery on East New York Avenue on Saturday around 6:10 p.m., but store owner Ferman Leonardo hopes the suspect is caught.
In the video, the suspect is seen talking to Leonardo at the counter as if he were ready to check out. He then pulls out a silver gun and grabs a customer by the neck. The customer falls to his knees and the suspect fires the gun at the clerk.
The bullet hit a box of toothpaste instead of Leonardo, who says the man kept yelling "give me the bread."
Leonardo says he threw money at the suspect, who eventually got away with about $400. Leonardo, who has a wife and two children, says his store has been robbed three times in the past 10 years.
Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS.
