A family that lost their home to Superstorm Sandy finally got to return to Gerritsen Beach on Thursday, along with some extra peace of mind.
The Galvin family has a greater sense of security this time, as their new home was elevated by 5 feet to avoid future storm damage.
The new house was built by Build it Back, which plans to rebuild over 2,000 Brooklyn homes damaged by Sandy. Construction has already started on 2,507 homes, but as of now only 1,527 homes have been completed.
Relatives had provided the family a home ever since Sandy displaced them in October 2012.
