Second suspect in BK NYPD double shooting caught
A second suspect in the shooting of two NYPD officers in Crown Heights was captured Wednesday evening in Pennsylvania, police confirmed.
Authorities caught ex-convict Dexter Bostic, 34, shortly after 6 p.m. in the Pocono Mountains in Pennsylvania. New York City Police Commissioner Ray Kelly said Bostic was apprehended as he attempted to flee into the woods. Bostic was originally thought to be in North Carolina, where he has friends and extended family.
Another suspect, Robert Ellis, was with Bostic at the time but escaped on foot and is still at large. Police said Bostic was captured after a motorist reported recognizing the wanted men as they walked along a remote stretch of Interstate 80.
The reward for information leading to arrests and convictions was raised from $64,000 to around $89,000 Wednesday.
Meanwhile, 29-year-old Lee Woods was ordered held without bail at his arraignment Wednesday. He faces charges of attempted murder, assault of a police officer, weapon possession and other counts. He was taken into custody after police say they found his fingerprints on a box of fried chicken left behind in a stolen SUV.
According to police, Woods claims that he was only the driver of the SUV in Monday?s Crown Heights incident. Woods' attorney claims Bostic and Ellis opened fire on officers Russel Timoshenko and Herman Yan during a traffic stop involving their stolen SUV.
An assistant district attorney told the courtroom, packed with police officers, that 23-year-old Timoshenko is paralyzed, has brain swelling and cannot breathe on his own.
Yan, 26, was released Tuesday and returned to his Sheepshead Bay home.
Woods is due back in court August 3.
