A group of Bronx tenants on Sheridan Avenue say they have denied their landlords' attempts at an illegal rent hike. Residents at 1511-1521 Sheridan Ave. say they received two claims requiring a rent increase based on building repairs. The forms, although legal, totaled $1.2 million, and included costs for roof and elevator work they say never happened. After months of writing letters to city officials, tenants say their landlords were denied the right to raise the rent. However, they are still waiting for a $300,000 claim to be processed, which could lead to a permanent fee of $4.87 per room.
