Julia Agosto says Finefare on Mermaid Avenue is taking advantage of a difficult situation. She says half a dozen eggs sells for $2.69 and has a sign on it that reads "special savings."
Agosto posted photos of the alleged price gouging on Facebook, which has since gotten over 150 shares.
The District Attorney's Office tells News 12 that it has issued over 900 cease and desist orders for price gouging around the state, and that despite dealing with an exceptionally high volume of complaints, it wants News York residents to keep filing them.
News 12 reached out to Finefare for comment and it responded with a statement saying, "We care about our customers and always want to give them the best prices especially during these circumstances. The attorney general already reached out and we supplied them with the evidence needed to prove that we are not price gouging. As many people know, vendors are putting up the prices of products and therefore that’s why there’s a price increase.”
