The snow and wind intensified early in the Red Hook section of Brooklyn as a winter snowstorm hit the region.
The storm began dropping snow over Brooklyn around 3:30 a.m. and continued throughout the day, according to News 12 meteorologists.
The roadways were coated with snow, which is making for a slippery and messy commute.
Red Hook looked barren as only a few drivers were seen on the road, and one shop owner who was clearing snow from a walkway.
Local officials advised residents to stay off of the roads so that workers could treat them with salt and sand.
DOT officials say they sent plow truck drivers out across the city when 2 inches of snow hit the ground.
All New York City public schools are closed today, according to officials.
Those traveling outside are being advised to wear multiple layers as temperatures are expected to tumble.
The storm is expected to bring between 5 to 8 inches of snow and high winds to Brooklyn before tapering off around 4 p.m.
