Even though the population of Brooklyn senior citizens is increasing, some nursing homes are reportedly in danger of closing.
According to a New York Post report, too many seniors are placed in Brooklyn nursing homes because of a lack of alternatives. The report also says there are too many empty beds at nursing homes. A ?right-size? commission plans to issue recommendations for overhauling the system. The commission is expected to shut down several nursing homes, as well as some underused hospitals.
A report by the Continuing Care Leadership Coalition says 55 percent of nursing homes throughout New York are also losing state funding.
