The construction of Brooklyn Bridge Park is changing the face of the downtown waterfront. Now that plans for the park have been approved, the borough is losing six of its piers. While some are excited for the new park, others say it's going to ruin the shipping industry. The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, which owns the land, will no longer allow cargo to be unloaded there. The teamsters union says jobs will be lost as a result, however, Sunset Park is being looked at as an alternate site. Port operator American Stevedoring says its lease for five piers in Brooklyn runs out in 2007. Company officials say the Port Authority told them their lease would not be renewed.
