A 5-week-old kitten may have just used one of its nine lives after it survived nearly being run over by a monster truck.
It happened during this past weekend’s Night of Thrills at Raceway Park in Englishtown.
A 10,000-pound monster truck had just made a pass over a junked Toyota Camry that the kitten was hiding in.
“A woman in the audience started yelling to me, ‘Save the cat. Save the cat.’ And then pretty soon the whole section of grandstands in that area is chanting ‘Save the cat,’” says Raceway Park co-owner David Napp. “It ran out of one of those cars, but got spooked and ran back in.”
Napp says that he stopped the show so that crews could find the kitten. They found it in the third car that they checked.
Spectators Samantha Hansen and Mellissa Pfisterer say that they saw the kitten and immediately wanted to take him home - a request track management quickly granted.
“I cried when I saw him,” says Hansen. “He’s just so cute and loveable and the perfect cat.”
The women named the cat “Showstopper” since he was able to bring a loud, raucous monster truck show to a screeching halt.
“Somebody was looking out for him and we’re happy to finish the job and make sure he got out safe,” says Napp.
Napp says that his entire family loves animals and he says that he hopes that this rescue encourages other people to rescue animals from their local animal shelter.
