Ice cream social held to encourage summer reading
Some officials in Brooklyn are using ice cream to get children to read during their summer vacations.
Councilman Mark Treyger and Assemblywoman Pamela Harris teamed up Monday to host an ice cream social at the New York Aquarium.
The event brought together kids of all ages and encouraged them to continue reading during their vacation.
"When I was a teacher, we needed to find ways to engage young people to learn and what better way to engage than some chocolate sprinkles and delicious vanilla ice cream," Treyger says.
