NYPD officers hand out books as part of new initiative
Police officers in Bedford-Stuyvesant handed out free books Wednesday to give back to their community.
Officers from the New York City Housing Bureau's Public Service Area 3 spent the afternoon with kids at the Marcy Houses and passed out free books.
The books were donated by police officers from the district as a way to connect with kids and their parents.
The event is the start of a new program called the Neighborhood Coordination Officers, an initiative to continue to build strong connections with neighborhoods throughout all five New York City boroughs.
