Mayor Bill de Blasio and other city officials held a news conference Friday warning New Yorkers of the dangers of the intense heat expected to impact the area over the next few days.

The National Weather Service issued an excessive heat warning Friday with temperatures reaching 90 degrees but feeling more like 105 and 110 degrees. All five boroughs of New York were under a heat warning until Sunday at 10 p.m.

Mayor de Blasio said staying hydrated is one of the best things to do in this heat. He also said that people should stay inside in the air conditioning when they can and to look out for elderly and children since heat is especially dangerous for them. 

Many Brooklyn residents said staying inside all day isn't an option, but they are doing the best they can. 

The city said cooling centers have extended hours due to the heat warning.
