Residents praise Gold Street safety upgrades

Residents who use Gold Street near the Farragut Houses are praising new safety improvements for pedestrians.
The city expanded the median between York and Sands streets from 3 feet to 8 feet.
The Department of Transportation says the move will result in fewer accidents.
The work also removed two lanes in both directions and added parking, which officials say will also reduce speeding.
The area had ranked among the top 10 percent for crashes in the borough.
