The family of the teen who was fatally shot at a J'Ouvert celebration earlier in the week is calling the incident a senseless act of gun violence.
Police say 17-year-old Tyreke Borel was shot to death early Monday morning during festivities leading up to the West Indian-American Day Carnival.
Police say there was more than one individual who saw the shooting, and they are asking those individuals to come forward with information.
Borel's mother, Alima St. Clair, and stepfather described him as a happy and caring son who loved basketball and looked after his siblings.
St. Clair says she is desperate to know who murdered her son, who will soon be buried in Trinidad, where his family is from.
Police say they are continuing to investigate the shooting.
