Best of Brooklyn: Glass Pigeons
Residents of Brooklyn have recently been spotting colorful glass pigeons on street lights around the borough.
The artist of the glass statues says that the birds are a part of the Brooklyn community.
"You can't go anywhere in the city without seeing a bunch of pigeons," the artist says. "And I just really fell in love with the shape of the pigeon."
The artist says she is fearful she could get in trouble for vandalism because it's illegal to put artwork on street lights, but neighbors don't seem to think of it as vandalism at all.
"I see it as art," says Nicole Alexeeva. "It makes it prettier."
Neighbors also say the pigeons sometimes serve as a reminder to look up from their phones once in a while and check out the details.
News 12 reached out to the Department of Transportation for its thoughts on the pigeons, but has not heard back.
