Japan's first lady presents donation for P.S. 147 dual language program
Japan's first lady visited students in Bushwick Monday to donate to the Japanese dual language program.
Akie Abe donated $30,000 toward P.S. 147's Japanese dual language program, presenting the grant on behalf of the Japan Foundation. The foundation was set up by the Japanese government to encourage cross-culture dialogue.
Abe sat in on Japanese lessons and learned about New York City's first and only Japanese dual language program.
"We are training our world-class students to be able to learn languages from around the world," said Deputy Chancellor Milady Baez.
The program was started two years ago and is one of 400 dual language programs in New York City.
