New homeless shelter learning lab opens
A new health and education initiative is aiming to take away the stigma often associated with living in a homeless shelter.
The Children's Museum of Manhattan joined with the city's Department of Homeless Services to bring a museum-like experience for children to the Albemarle Family Residence homeless shelter.
The learning lab provides hands-on educational programs and information regarding nutrition, mathematics and reading.
The Children's Museum of Manhattan says the learning center is the first of 10 additional ones coming to city homeless shelters, and it was all made possible through a $250,000 grant from Target.
