Citymeals on Wheels is making sure homebound New Yorkers are ready for an emergency by preparing emergency food packages.
The nonprofit organization is busy packing its warehouse in Williamsburg to provide for those during the winter months.
The boxes are filled with food that will soon be hand-delivered to seniors. They contain items such as tuna, applesauce and oatmeal. Each box's contents can last on the shelf just in case people are stuck indoors because of the bitter cold, a blizzard or a blackout.
More than 18,000 boxes were being packed and readied for shipment next week.
In December, Citymeals on Wheels says another 18,000 emergency food boxes will go out to homebound seniors.
