Man fatally shot near Brownsville school

A man was fatally shot Wednesday in close proximity to a school in Brownsville.
The shooting happened just after 3 p.m. at the Howard Houses. A 28-year-old man was shot multiple times. He was taken to Brookdale Medical Center and pronounced dead.
"I could see his life leaving his body and to me it was traumatizing to see a young man die before my eyes," says state Sen. Jesse Hamilton.
Officials say the nearby P.S. 298 was briefly put on shelter-in state because of the shooting. Classes resumed once police gave the all-clear.
Police say the suspect fled the scene on foot and was wearing a white T-shirt at the time.
There was no word on whether there was a relationship between the suspect and victim.
