Bed-Stuy salon owner reflects on 10 years in business
A Bedford-Stuyvesant salon owner is celebrating 10 years in business, a milestone that showcases the shop's resiliency following an armed robbery.
Six years ago, a gunman robbed Sabine's Hallway Natural Hair Salon and held everyone at gunpoint.
An off-duty police officer was getting her hair done at the time of the incident, and was able to save the store and shoot the gunman.
Owner Sabine Bellevue says while she was scared for her life, the incident motivated her to work harder and invest in her community. She has offered free hairdos for teens, hired interns and done volunteer work.
The hair stylists who work at the shop say they are grateful to work in a place that gives back to those who are less fortunate.
