Map show calories burned from walking instead of taking subway
A new map allows residents to see exactly how many calories they would burn if they decided to walk instead of taking the subway.
The citywide map was created by treated.com, a British-based health care website. It breaks down how many calories are burned if someone walks between each subway station, instead of taking the train.
For example, if someone was taking the L train from the Canarsie Rockaway station up to Broadway Junction, it's about three miles in total.
According to Google maps, it's about a 15-minute subway ride and a little more than a 15-minute drive. If someone decided to walk instead, the treated.com map indicates they could burn about 270 calories.
