Police: Suspect burglarized Sheepshead Bay church

Police say a church in Sheepshead Bay was burglarized Thursday afternoon, but neighbors returned the stolen items on Sunday.

The burglary happened around 2 p.m. at the Saint John Orthodox Cathedral at 2016 Voorhies Ave.

Police say the suspect broke in and stole religious artifacts, including a scepter, and $30. Those items have since been returned by neighbors.

Police are still searching for the suspect who is described as in his 30s or 40s and was wearing a tan coat and dark pants.
