CB7 approves Sunset Park Library expansion
A $25 million Sunset Park Library and housing expansion project that has been in the works for years is close to becoming a reality.
Community Board 7 voted in favor of a development plan for the Fourth Avenue location after several meetings and public hearings.
If the city also approves the plan, the library would become an eight-story, mixed-use building with 50 affordable housing units on top. Nine of those units would be reserved for victims of domestic violence.
The Fifth Avenue Committee, a local nonprofit that specializes in affordable housing developments, would head the project, which would be partially funded by low-income housing tax credits.
Officials hope the proposal will be approved in the spring. Construction could begin by the end of next year.
