70th Precinct remembers slain detective
Colleagues of an NYPD detective who died in the line of duty 11 years ago gathered Monday at the 70th Precinct building in Midwood to remember him.
Detective Dillon Stewart died on Nov. 28, 2005 while trying to pull over a stolen vehicle.
Officer Kim Walker says she remembers the shooting and initially thought Stewart might recover from his wound.
Many of the precinct's current officers were not there at the time of Stewart's death, but Walker and the commanding officer say it's important to recognize his dedication and service.
Religious and elected leaders also joined NYPD brass for the event. Stewart's family is also usually in attendance, but could not make it this year.
The precinct also holds a blood drive every year before Thanksgiving in Stewart's honor.
