Bronxmama blogger recommends holiday toys

One of the bloggers behind Bronxmama.com met with News 12 The Bronx Thursday to share her thoughts on the best children's toys this holiday season.
She has alternatives for popular items like Hatchimals, stuffed animals that "hatch" from eggs, which are selling out everywhere.
For very young children, under 2 years old, Martha Katechis recommends toys with flashing lights to stimulate them and get them moving. One example, she says, is the Code-A-Pillar from Fisher-Price -- a light-up, roving caterpillar with detachable parts.
For girls between 2 and 7 years old, she recommends Shopkins.
For kids between 7 and 12 years old, Katechis recommends drones, which she says are fun and encourage kids to play outdoors.
Old-school board games like Battleship and The Game of Life also remain popular for children and adults, she says.
And for kids who absolutely have to have sold-out items, Katechis recommends waiting until after Christmas when prices drop back down to the MSRP level and stocks are restored.
"I try not to make it all about the hot new toy and go with what my child likes," she says.
