Parking restrictions lifted in Fordham community
One community in Fordham got an early holiday gift as community leaders voted in favor of lifting overnight parking restrictions.
Community Board 7 voted in favor of restoring overnight parking on E. 194th Street between Kingsbridge Road and Marion Avenue. Commuters in the area were fed up with the restrictions, which stated no parking between 10 p.m. and 5 a.m. The measure was initially put in place to reduce crime, but some say it hurt business.
One board member says merchants, residents and activists supported the decision to lift the restriction because they felt that what was put in place 15 years ago no longer was needed in the area to reduce crime.
Store owners say they believe the change will be better for business.
While many are pleased with the decision, there is always a chance that the restriction could be put back into place if the NYPD sees an increase in crime again.
