Anella launches green ‘takeout’ initiative

A restaurant in Greenpoint is working with a community organization to help reduce waste from takeout boxes.
In an effort to 'go green,' the restaurant, Anella, is making an effort to reduce, reuse, and recycle takeout boxes through a partnership with Neighbors Allied For Good Growth. Together, they launched a program called "Shareware" earlier this month.
Anella is one of two restaurants in the neighborhood that offers customers the opportunity to reuse their containers and save money in the process.
Customers who return the used containers receive 10 percent off their next meal.
"It's a great way to bring back business to the restaurant," says Anella customer, Alex Peterson. "If you're bringing back the containers, you are also coming back for business."
The program ends at the end of February, but both the customers and Anella staff say they hope environmental initiatives continue for years to come.
