Bay Ridge cart vendor to be honored as 'most heroic'
A controversial Bay Ridge food cart vendor is set to be honored as "Most Heroic Vendor" at the Vendy Awards next month.
Sammy Kassen says he has been fighting against other businesses in the area for his right to open up his food cart in Bay Ridge.
He says he has weathered threats of lawsuits and a sit-in, as well as benches mysteriously appearing to block where he normally sets up.
A local sports bar owner says that Kassen under cuts him because he doesn't have to pay rent.
Kassen will be honored at a ceremony on Governors Island on Sept. 14.
