Livery cab drivers tell News 12 Brooklyn that keeping their guard up against unsafe passengers is part of their job.

Police say they are still searching for two men who robbed a livery cab driver at gunpoint in East New York back in June, leaving many drivers on edge.

One driver who spoke to News 12 Brooklyn shared his story of an encounter with a dangerous passenger. Joe Lossino, who has been driving livery cabs since the 1970s, says the passenger didn't have money and hit him over the head with a tire iron.

Lossino's incident occurred when livery cabs weren't required to have cameras or partitions. Since then, officials have made it mandatory that all cabs have either of the two. Livery cabs are also required to be equipped with amber lights that are able to let nearby police know if the drivers are in trouble.
