Students explore underneath Coney Island
The City Parks Foundation turned the waters beneath Coney Island into a classroom today for kids. Children who participated were able to put on chest waders to gather deeper water samples to test the water quality. They used seine nets to collect flora and fauna for biodiversity sampling. Those who organized the adventure also helped students explore the sand dunes. The lesson underneath Coney Island focused on ecology, water quality, urban waterfront restoration and preservation.
